Après l’école primaire et la deuxième école de Gando Francis Kéré a décidé de construire un Lycée dans son village natal, au Burkina Faso.

C’est au moment de la planification et au début de la construction que j’ai été impliqué dans le projet.

Comme nous n’avions pas assez d’argent pour le construire nous avons postulé au Global Holcim Award. A ce moment Francis passa un deal avec moi, ‘si nous gagnons un prix tu pourras aller au Burkina Faso’.

Nous avons alors travaillé de tout notre cœur pour faire avancer le projet, le présenter au Global Holcim Award et nous avons gagné le premier prix. C’était vraiment une belle surprise car nous allions avoir les fonds pour commencer la construction et j’allais pouvoir aller travailler sur le chantier à Gando.

Dans ce projet j’ai travaillé sur les concepts de ventilation passive, sur les images de synthèse et sur le chantier à améliorer la technique de la terre coulée.

After the primary school and the second school in Gando, Francis Kéré decided to build a Lycée in his home village in Burkina Faso.

I became involved in the project at the planning and construction stages.

As we didn’t have enough money to build it, we applied for the Global Holcim Award. At that point Francis made a deal with me, ‘if we win a prize you can go to Burkina Faso’.

We then worked our hearts out to move the project forward, present it to the Global Holcim Award and we won first prize. It was a really nice surprise because we were going to have the funds to start construction and I was going to be able to go and work on the site in Gando.

In this project I worked on passive ventilation concepts, on computer-generated images and on the site to improve the poured earth technique.
